TKF's Annual Gandhi Nonviolence Awards
October 6, 2007
The Gandhi Nonviolence Awards are designed to honor San Diego County individuals and organizations that promote, inspire or help build a culture of peacemakers and make San Diego a more peaceful and harmonious community for all.
TKF began its annual Gandhi Nonviolence Award program in 1998 with the appearance of Dr. Arun & Sunanda Gandhi as keynote speakers at the first "Island of Nonviolence" benefit event. The award is named in honor of Arun’s grandfather - India’s great spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi who died in 1948.
The Gandhi Awards will be given out during a special awards ceremony on October 6, 2007. Awards are given in each of the following categories: Community Leadership (Community Leader-Individual and Community Leader-Organization), Education, Business, Community Communications, Faith Community, and Youth (a male and a female winner). The award winners are honored on stage and receive a special plaque. The two youth winners each receive a $500 scholarship.
