School Programs

TKF has reached over 8 million students in 12,000 schools across the nation via a documentary created by Channel One News, over 300,000 students via in-school presentations and over 70,000 students in San Diego via a live program, teaching hope, personal responsibility and forgiveness.

TKF’s programs focus on educating students about the effects of violence and empowering them to make positive, non-violent choices.  At TKF, we offer programs ranging from one-time presentations and assemblies to multi-session programs that can be facilitated by TKF staff.

Violence Impact Forum (VIF)Azim and Ples

A powerful assembly for 4th-12th grade students in San Diego County. The assembly includes a facilitator as well as former gang members who can discuss the realities of negative choices and the ability to turn your life around . During the VIF, students learn about the TKF story through a high-impact video reenacting the tragedy followed by real life stories about the consequences of violence, the reality of gangs and prison life, and the power of choices. The VIF includes lively student participation and inspires youth to make peaceful, nonviolent choices. Read More...

Mini-VIF (Assembly)

New!  We are now offering a tailored version of our original VIF called the mini-VIF.  This mini-VIF is an hour-long VIF presentation that includes viewing the new video, “Making the Right Choice”, and hearing from panelists whose lives have been effected by violence.  The assembly is geared toward smaller audiences who benefit from the intimacy of the assembly. It can be tailored to fit the exact needs of the school from elementary all the way through high school.  This March 08 we held an assembly at Burbank Elementry then we created the canvas (pictured above) hanging in their school to help them remember the message shared. They were each able to place their handprint on this memorabilia to indicate their participation and promise to be a peacemaker in their home, school, and community.

Circle of Peace

Garden of Peace students planting flowersThis program is designed for elementary and middle school students who dedicate themselves to promoting peace on their campus by serving as role models. The program’s lessons and activities are based on a three-part model where they have an opportunity to learn inner-peace; acquire life skills; and provide community service projects. Read More...

Ending the Cycle of ViolencePles and Azim with News Camera

PEP (Peace Empowerment Project)

PEP is TKF’s newest program that began in early October.  PEP is a three-year, privately funded grant program that will enable our newly hired full-time PEP coordinators to implement comprehensive TKF programs in a selected cluster of schools.  Each coordinator will be based at a specific school site and will incorporate TKF programs into the daily curriculum and culture of the school.  TKF has teamed with San Diego State University College of Arts and Letters to create a longitudinal evaluation of the PEP project.  Our intended outcomes of this project are to change the behaviors of students receiving TKF programs and shift the school climate towards a more peaceful environment.
PEP Schools: Morse High School, Bell Junior High School, Audubon ES, Boone ES, Encanto ES, Fulton ES, and Valencia Park ES

Parent Peace Coalition

This is an exiting 12-week curriculum that gives parents a safe space to discuss the way violence impacts their children, and to uncover pathways to prevention. Members participate in a curriculum program, and then meet as an action group which works to directly impact violence affecting their children and their communities.

Special Programs

In addition to the powerful assemblies, nonviolence programs and professional videos, TKF also offers a variety of presentations and special programs for students and parents. These programs range from gang information to counseling services.
