What is it?

The violence prevention work of TKF is showcased in "Ending the Cycle of Violence," a new six part video series produced by Discovery Education.

This groundbreaking series provides a bold new approach to Violence Prevention, which introduces youth to the essential life skills of:

The series is based on the nationally recognized community-based prevention programs developed by TKF, an educational foundation started in memory of Tariq Khamisa, a 20-year-old college student who was shot and killed by 14-year-old Tony Hicks in San Diego in 1995. The program is comprised of six videos:

  1. From Murder to Forgiveness – 35:00
  2. Violence is Real and Hurts Everyone – 24:00
  3. Everyone Deserves to be Loved and Treated Well – 25:00
  4. Actions Have Consequences - 22:00
  5. Choosing to Forgive Instead of Seeking Revenge - 25:00
  6. Making the Non-Violent Choice – 20:00

Using examples from Tariq and Tony’s story as well as the stories of other youth and young role models, ENDING THE CYCLE OF VIOLENCE vividly communicates the contrasting realities of violence and non-violence, revenge and forgiveness. The videos also contain engaging animated sequences depicting some of the latest research on brain chemistry and how choices can affect brain development with commentary by juvenile forensic psychologist, Dr. Jeffrey Rowe.
