Awards and Honors
TKF and its founders, Azim Khamisa and Ples Felix, have been the recipients of numerous awards. In April 1997, Azim & Ples received the National Crime Victims "Special Community Service Award" in Washington, D.C. (presented by Attorney General Janet Reno and Vice-President Al Gore). In 1998, Azim was invited to the White House for a presidential panel on school violence. In December 2002, Azim & Ples returned to Washington, D.C. to receive the prestigious "Common Ground Award." National Awards:
- "Common Ground Award for Building Peaceful Communities" by the Search for Common Ground organization
- "Temple Award for Creative Altruism" by the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS)
- "Hero of Forgiveness Award" by the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance National Crime Victims
- "Special Community Service Award" by the Office of Victims
of Crime.
Local Awards:
Amnesty International awarded TKF with the "2003 Digna Ochoa Human
Rights Defender Award". - Ples Felix accepted the "Human Relations Award" presented by the Heartland Human Relations & Fair Housing Association.
- Azim Khamisa Honored as KGTV- Channel 10’s "Overall Community Leader of the Year"
- "Peacemaker Award" by the San Diego Mediation Center
- "Human Unity Award" by the San Diego region of the National Conference (NCCJ)
