Media and Press
The founding of TKF in November 1995 and the extraordinary alliance of Azim Khamisa & Ples Felix led to an avalanche of media interest, speaking engagements, awards and honors in the early years. Media coverage included articles in Parade and People magazines, USA Today, New York Times, San Diego Union-Tribune, and San Diego Magazine, along with local television coverage and an interview with NBC’s Today show host Katie Couric (March ’96).
Over the past few years, TKF’s renewed public relations efforts have strengthened
our relationship with San Diego’s local media and increased community awareness
of TKF’s youth violence prevention efforts. In fact, KGTV San Diego- Channel
10 honored Azim Khamisa in January 2001 as their "Overall Community
Leader of the Year."For the Media
May 17, 2004 – Khamisa selected to participate in the third annual "Synthesis
